Hinckley Area Special School

Hinckley Area Special School (HASS) is a purpose built school which caters for students who may be described as having moderate or severe learning difficulties or profound and multiple learning difficulties.
HASS caters for pupils aged between 3 and 14. Classes are organised according to the age of the pupils and there are both generic classes in the school as well as autism specific classes.
HASS is staffed by qualified teachers, teaching assistants, midday supervisors, a school nurse, administration and premises staff. All students who attend the school have a Statement of Special Educational Need. In order to address the pupil’s special educational needs they provide a broad and balanced curriculum which is based on the National Curriculum.
HASS was a design and build project with the main contractor responsible for developing the clients requirements into preliminary design and presenting a Guaranteed Maximum Price.
Following a two stage tender process based on previous experience, design and management expertise, along with commercial costs, EI.WHS were awarded the contract to create the design for the Electrical services and provide a guaranteed cost.
Following the design development period the clients requirements, which included BREEAM very good rating and life cycle costing, the budget was met and the project moved into construction phase.
The electrical services comprised of power distribution, artificial lighting, fire & intruder alarms, CCTV system, ICT systems including voice & data installation and interactive whiteboards.
The project was delivered on time, in budget and surpassed clients expectations.
