Kings Mill Hospital

The redevelopment of Kings Mill Hospital near Mansfield is a £320 million private public partnership project encompassing the redevelopment of much of the existing hospital. New facilities being provided include new wards, diagnostic & treatment centre, FM services block and site wide mains infrastructure over a 6 year period.

The development covers a total area of 140,000 square metres and will provide 840 beds allowing the delivery of integrated support services that will enhance efficiency and deliver significant cost benefits to the Trusts,

FM Block M&E Services Installation

The building is a new construction and comprises chilled food storage, diet preparation areas for the entire hospital site, together with laboratories for the repair of medical equipment, linen storage and a control room suite for the site security services. The mechanical services for the building comprise ventilation, heating, domestic water & sanitary ware, above ground drainage. The existing site heating mains is utilised as the heat source, with the interface via heat exchangers.

The electrical services comprise mains distribution, lighting and small power together with a full containment system for other site services.

The ceiling void space was restricted and due to the large number of services being installed, close attention was paid to co-ordination of services throughout the project to ensure that these were fitted correctly within the space available. Close co-ordination was also carried out with the other site services trade contactors such as BMS, Fire Alarm and Security & Kitchen equipment specialists to ensure that their requirements were met.
