Leicester Bus Depot

The new Bus Depot situated on the main A6 Abbey Lane is the new home for the Leicester City Bus Fleet. First Group are the leading UK Bus operator and transport in the region of 2.8m passengers around the country everyday. The Depot is a purpose built unit with careful consideration given to the design to reflect a busy working depot environment. The building was constructed for First Group to replace the existing depot located about 1 mile away. EI.WHS close liaison with First Groups appointed professional team resulted in a very high standard in relation to the electrical installation. DLA architects and Lachmann, as the building services consultants, have fine tuned the design ascertained from constructing other depots around the country. First Group appointed Allenbuild as the main contractor and EI.WHS along with other members of the build team, developed a strong teamwork ethic with the ethos to deliver a quality end product on time and within the budgetary constraints.

The Bus depot is divided up into 4 main areas. A two storey office block is situated to the west of the building with a centrally situated full height workshop and the east side of the building consist of a bus wash/fuelling area and an under chassis wash to include a plant room. EI.WHS were responsible for the Electrical Services comprising of Lighting and Small Power Installation, Emergency Lighting Installation, Lightning Protection System, Fire, Intruder, CCTV and Access Control Systems, Disabled Refuge and Disabled Call Alarm, Voice & Data Installation, TV System, External Lighting Installation and Vehicle Entrance Barrier. Having demonstrated our competence in this department it was requested that EI.WHS take on the responsibility to manage and facilitate the Regional Electricity Supplies to Traffic Signals and Street Lighting on the main A6 as part of the Section 278 works.
