Outokumpu (Sheffield)

Outokumpu (formerly Avesta Polarit/British Steel) is an international steel company with many sites in Sheffield who supply specialised steels to the constructions industry, transportation, and electronics through to the catering industry who operate in 30 countries and employs over 8000 people.
We have been carrying out various projects on site for over 25 years from general maintenance work to High Voltage/Low Voltage installation work, machinery installations and fibre optics.
We recently carried out the complete re-wire of one of the Ladle Bay Cranes.
The 250 tonne and 50 tonne hoist with the 10 tonne auxiliary fill the furnace with scrap metal and when melted by the electric arc furnace transports the molten metal to the casters down the main shop. There are three 250 tonnes cranes in the bay and No1 is the first to be refurbished.
EI.WHS were commissioned to disconnect and remove all the cabling and equipment on the No1 Ladle Bay Crane in the SMACC melting shop.
The drivers cab was removed and a new one fitted, whilst this was being installed all the old cables, panels and equipment was disconnected and removed to the shop floor 30 metres below.
The new drivers cab, resistors, panels, distribution boards, bus bars and new cables were installed to Outokumpu specifications, working with the electrical engineers to test and commission ready for the production.
EI.WHS electricians worked day and night in harsh conditions 30 metres above ground to complete the installation ready for production and meet the customers satisfaction.
We have now been asked to tender for No3 Ladle Bay Crane and complete the installation within the shutdown period of two weeks.
We have a permanent site manager and a team of highly skilled electricians designated to this site and as needs require i.e. a major breakdown/fire we are on site to assist/repair when needed as well as carrying out day to day installation works.
EI.WHS Turnover is £700K Per Annum.
