BritSats Well Head Platform

In 2006 SPIE WHS were selected by Heerema Hartlepool, to carry out the Electrical and Instrumentation Installation work to the Conoco Phillips “BritSats” well head platform. The project was managed by Mike Linford (snr Contracts Engineer) and Ted Smith (site manager). BritSats is a stepout development from the Britannia gas and condensate field in UK blocks 15/29 and 30, and 16/26 and which first came onstream in 1998.
BritSats phase 1 comprises a new wellhead platform, to tap satellite discoveries near Britannia initially Callanish, in blocks 15/29b, and 21/4a, 25 km (15.6 miles) south west of Britannia and Brodgar in 21/3a, 41 km (25.6 miles) to the southwest. A new bridge-linked platform (BLP) with six wells - four on Callanish and two wells on Brodgar - is to access the reservoirs which will export via Britannia and the Forties Pipeline to the UK St Fergus terminal. The BLP consists of a 3,500 tonnes topside, a 290 tonne access and service bridge and a 5,300 tonne jacket.
Four Callanish wells were drilled in 2004 and two more are scheduled for Brodgar in 2005. Installation of the BLP is due second quarter 2006 and production in third quarter 2006. Projected field life is 20 years. Callanish was discovered 1999 and is owned 83.5% by ConocoPhillips (operator) and 16.5% by ChevronTexaco. Brodgar, discovered 1985, is owned 80% by ConocoPhillips and 20% by ChevronTexaco. The fields are in water depths of 140-150 meters (459 - 492ft).
BritSats Offshore
Following the “onshore” work at Heerema Fabrication yard at Hartlepool, SPIE WHS were selected to assist with the “phase 1 offshore” scope of works, this resulted in approx 70 operatives working around the clock on a two weeks on two weeks off shift pattern.
SPIE WHS Ltd sucessfully completed the offshore construction work in April 2008 and assisted in the commissioning stages with final completion achieved in August 2008.
