Butetown Link Tunnel Cardiff

The Butetown Link Tunnel is a 715 metre long, twin bore tunnel in Central Cardiff running under the Butetown area and forming part of the peripheral distribution road system.

South Glamorgan County Council awarded the contract to SPIE WHS for the total management, design procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of all electrical and mechanical services for the Tunnel, the Tunnel Services Buildings andWater Pumping Stations.

SPIE WHS were also awarded the contract for the Civil Works on the Tunnel Services Building.

  • The lane control and emergency systems which consisted of CCTV, lane control signs, emergency telephone systems, traffic detector loops, matrix and VMS signs, radio systems, etc. and included a signalling and communications system some 5km long.
